Dr. Michael Lee Losey, a beloved physician and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, in Pensacola, Florida. He was born on November 20, 1939, and lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and a deep love for his family and community.
Dr. Losey devoted his adult life to medicine, serving countless individuals through his own practice that spanned communities from Tallahassee and Destin, Florida, to the smaller towns surrounding Owosso, Michigan. His commitment to his patients was unwavering, and throughout his distinguished career, he received numerous awards that recognized his exceptional contributions to the field of medicine.
An alumnus of the University of Florida and Florida State Colleges, Dr. Losey’s educational journey equipped him with the knowledge and skills to make a difference in the lives of so many. But his passion extended beyond the walls of his practice. As a loving husband to Sandra Kay Waters, whom he married on November 21, 1967, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dr. Losey found joy and fulfillment in building a life with her. Together, they shared countless moments, laughter, and love, with Sandra by his side until his last moments.
In addition to his roles as physician and husband, Dr. Losey was a proud father to Julie Ann and Kirk Stephen, whose accomplishments brought him infinite joy. The light of his life continued to shine through his grandchildren, Ashley (Barrett) Baggett, Allyssa (Guzniczak) Natzel, and Kameron Losey, as well as five great-grandchildren, whose presence filled his heart with pride and happiness.
Dr. Losey's commitment to service extended beyond his family as he dedicated time to the Emmanuel Church in Destin, Florida. There, his loving spirit and medical expertise benefited the church community and shaped many lives, reflecting his deep faith and dedication to helping others.
His time in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during the Berlin Crisis of 1961 instilled in him virtues of courage, strength, and sacrifice, which he demonstrated throughout his life. Honorably discharged, he carried these values into his profession and personal life, earning the respect and admiration of those around him.
An adventurer at heart, Dr. Losey found solace in nature and travel. He loved hiking through the Grand Canyon and exploring the vistas surrounding Flagstaff and Phoenix, Arizona. These moments spent outdoors recharged his spirit, feeding his love of life and the beauty it had to offer.
As we reflect on a life filled with love, service, and dedication, we remember Dr. Michael Lee Losey not only as a physician but as a guiding light to his family and community—one whose legacy will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
